Revising Conflict Cluster Poetry

Step 1 - which poems deal with POWER and which with CONFLICT?

Step 2 - What is their main messages regarding this topic? Try and identify 2.

Example - London
The effects of conflict are far reaching across a nation

Step 3 - What quotes justify this message you have identified
Example - The title of the poem is London, that being the capital city and heart of the nation. This shows that conflict affects an entire nation from old to young, the newborn in fact.

Step 4 - What are the authors 3 'favourite' devices? This should also help you identify the key quotes.

Example - In London the poet uses contrast

Step 5 - What are the effects of these devices?

Step 6 - Any structural features that are of note and further the main messages?

Step 7 - What other poem does this link with and why?

Example - Kamikaze also explores the effects of conflict on multiple generations as we see the effects of the soldiers return on his wife, children and neighbours. All generations are affected by the conflict and this is shown through the ruined relationships and isolation of the pilot.
